Important Notice for Attendant Care Users!

Many of you are attendant care consumers and have heard about drastic changes to rates, which directly affect consumer services, which threaten our independence. For those who haven't heard, here's the scoop:

The Office of Long Term Living (OLTL) changed policies on January 1st that negatively impact the elderly and people with disabilities who want to receive services in their homes rather than nursing homes. The changes involve restrictions, rates and other administrative procedures. The NEPACIL and consumers will suffer devastating cuts in service if Governor Corbett does not issue a moratorium until all rates have been updated.

As a result, I'm asking consumers to contact their State Representatives and State Senators and voice opposition to the proposed changes. You can find contact information for your legislators at http://www.legis.state.pa.us/index.cfm. Below is a draft message which you can e mail or send a hard copy. Thanks for your help, and contact me at kwilliams@nepacil.org with any questions.

Dear Representative/Senator_______:

I am a person with a disability receiving attendant care/waiver services through the Pennsylvania Attendant Care Program.

I'm extremely concerned that I may lose my services and/or the quality of my services and am requesting your assistance. A proposal by the Office of Long Term Living (OLTL) will have a disastrous impact for people with disabilities receiving home and community based services. They changed bundled rates before all rates were adjusted.

I’m urging you to request the Corbett administration to place an immediate moratorium on any OLTL policy changes until agencies can work with the administration to develop all four of the rates and implement them at the same time - RIGHT RATES FIRST !

I hope that you will support the independence of your constituents, and that of other people with disabilities in the Commonwealth.

Sincerely,
