NEPACIL's Rory Giovannucci, Disability and Housing Advocate, was on hand, with soon to be resident, Pat Zabrowski, showing WNEP's Trish Hartman all the features in Lackawanna County's Blakely Apts.
Federal Stimulus money was used to make the apartments (four totally accessible) with "larger bathroom with handicap bars, lower light switches and thermostats, and lower counter tops."
"Folks from the Northeast Pennsylvania Center for Independent Living helped to make sure the apartments meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act."This allows them the radius to turn, it allows them independent living, in other words, being able to work, cook for themselves, take care of themselves, and sometimes with attendant care to do other things," said Disability Advocate Rory Giovannucci."
